Golden Lloydiella for Sale — Vivid Golden Color and Easy Care for Aquariums, Ponds, and Paludariums
If you’ve been searching for Golden Lloydiella for sale, Quinn’s Fins grows Lysimachia nummularia ‘Aurea’ — commonly known as Golden Creeping Jenny, Golden Moneywort, or Creeping Loosestrife — right here in our on-site nursery greenhouse. Golden Lloydiella is one of the oldest aquarium plants in the hobby, valued for decades in Dutch-style aquascapes for its extraordinary golden-yellow color and genuinely forgiving care requirements. Its small, rounded, coin-shaped leaves are arranged in opposite pairs along trailing stems, creating a full, lush appearance that reads as warm golden-green in submerged aquarium conditions and a deeper, more vivid golden-yellow in emersed or high-light settings. As a practical bonus, Golden Lloydiella is one of the most effective nitrate-absorbing plants available — actively filtering excess nutrients from the water column as it grows. Golden Lloydiella for sale at Quinn’s Fins is available in two formats — bare root (SKU 702-1, $5.99) and in a 2″ pot (SKU 702-2, $8.99) — both nursery-grown and ready to plant.

Growing Golden Lloydiella — Care at a Glance
Light — The Key to Golden Color
Light is the single most important variable for Golden Lloydiella’s signature golden color. Moderate to high lighting is essential — in lower light conditions, the golden-yellow pigmentation fades and leaves shift toward a more standard green tone. In moderate to high light, the vivid golden-yellow color is maintained and growth is compact and bushy. Higher light also encourages the plant to remain lower and more spreading rather than reaching upward. Avoid placing in shaded areas under taller plants.
Planting
Plant Golden Lloydiella stem bases directly into substrate with 1–2 inches of stem buried and the growing tip above. Space individual stems 1–2 inches apart to allow spreading and side shoot development. Plant in groups for the most impactful golden color effect — single stems are attractive but grouped plantings create the vibrant golden mass that defines Dutch-style aquascapes. For bare root plants, trim any damaged roots or stem ends before planting and rinse thoroughly.
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 65–82°F (18–28°C) — performs best in the cooler end of the range (65–77°F); tolerates tropical temperatures but prefers cooler conditions
- pH: 6.0–7.6
- Hardness: Soft to moderately hard — adaptable across a wide range
- Flow: Low to moderate — excessive flow can dislodge stems before they root
CO2 & Fertilization
CO2 injection is not required — Golden Lloydiella is one of the most CO2-tolerant stem plants available. However, CO2 supplementation combined with high light produces noticeably faster growth, more compact bushy form, and the most vivid golden color. Regular liquid fertilizer supplementation — particularly nitrogen and iron — maintains healthy growth. Golden Lloydiella is an excellent nitrate indicator: vigorous new leaf production signals healthy nutrient levels; stalled growth or lack of new leaves indicates nitrate deficiency.
Pruning & Propagation
Golden Lloydiella grows quickly under good conditions and requires regular trimming to prevent it from overtaking the aquarium. Prune stems by cutting above a node — replant the cut tops directly into the substrate to produce new rooted plants. The trimmed lower stems will push side shoots and become bushier over time. Propagation by stem cuttings is extremely simple — cut and replant, rinse and repeat. One plant produces unlimited new plants over time at no additional cost.
Emersed Use
Golden Lloydiella performs beautifully in emersed or semi-emersed conditions — paludariums, ripariums, open-top aquariums, and outdoor pond margins. In emersed conditions the golden-yellow color is most vivid and the plant produces a creeping, ground-covering growth habit rather than the upright trailing form seen in submerged aquariums. Small yellow flowers may appear in ideal emersed conditions. In outdoor pond margin use, monitor carefully — this plant has the potential to escape into natural waterways and is considered invasive in the Great Lakes region of the US and Canada.
Invasive Species Notice
Lysimachia nummularia ‘Aurea’ is considered invasive or a noxious weed in parts of the United States and Canada — particularly in Great Lakes states. Never release this plant or any trimmings into natural waterways, ponds, or wetlands. Dispose of all trimmings in sealed bags in the trash. Please verify your state’s aquatic plant regulations before purchasing.
