Description
Anubias nana var. ‘Golden’
Description:
Anubias nana var. ‘Golden’ is a stunning and compact variety of the classic Anubias, admired for its vibrant golden-green foliage that stands out beautifully in any freshwater aquarium. This slow-growing, rhizomatous plant is perfect for attaching to hardscape such as driftwood, rocks, or decor, adding a pop of luminous color to the foreground or midground of planted tanks.
Smaller than standard Anubias nana, the ‘Golden’ variant grows to around 2–4 inches tall, forming tight, bushy clusters over time. Its thick, leathery leaves are more yellow-toned than typical Anubias varieties, making it a striking contrast against darker plants and wood. It thrives in low to moderate lighting and requires very little maintenance, making it an ideal choice for both beginners and experienced aquascapers.
Since it does not root in substrate, this plant is best attached using aquarium-safe glue or thread. Its hardiness and resistance to algae (when not overlit) make it suitable for a wide range of setups, including low-tech and shrimp tanks.
Care Tips:
Lighting: Low to moderate; avoid high light to reduce algae on leaves.
Substrate: Not required—attach rhizome to wood or rock (do not bury it).
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 68°F–82°F
pH: 6.0–7.8
Hardness: Soft to hard water tolerant
Tank Size: Suitable for tanks of all sizes, especially nano and aquascaped layouts.
Growth Rate: Slow and steady, perfect for low-maintenance setups.
Maintenance: Trim dead leaves; avoid burying the rhizome to prevent rot.
Anubias nana ‘Golden’ brings a soft, glowing accent to any aquascape, complementing mosses, stones, and driftwood. Its ease of care, compatibility with most tank inhabitants, and long-lasting beauty make it a must-have for natural and modern aquascapes alike.
