Vallisneria for Sale — Fast-Growing Background Ribbon Plants for Any Freshwater Aquarium

Quinn’s Fins carries three nursery-grown Vallisneria species for sale — the most popular fast-spreading background plants in the freshwater aquarium hobby. All Vallisneria spread via underground runners, fill in aquarium backgrounds without replanting, require no CO2, and are compatible with cichlids, goldfish, and hard water setups. Critical care note for all Vallisneria: never trim the leaves — cut leaves rot from the wound and foul the water.

Vallisneria Available

• Jungle Vallisneria (Vallisneria americana) — classic bright green ribbon leaves reaching 24″+; fast-spreading background curtain for 20+ gallon tanks
• Red Jungle Vallisneria (Vallisneria gigantea rubra) — same flowing ribbon form with reddish-bronze tones developing under high light and iron supplementation
• Italian Vallisneria (Vallisneria spiralis) — more compact than Jungle Val at 18–24″; ideal for 10–55 gallon tanks; available as single plant, bunch, or pot

Care Summary

Plant with roots buried and crown just at the substrate surface — never bury the crown. Never trim leaves. No CO2 required. Moderate to high light. Tolerates hard alkaline water and light brackish conditions. Prolific runner spreaders — separate daughter plants once established with visible roots and 3–4 leaves.
