Description

String of Hearts for Sale — Delicate Trailing Vine With Silver-Marbled Heart Leaves

If you’ve been searching for String of Hearts for sale, Quinn’s Fins grows Ceropegia woodii — commonly known as String of Hearts, Rosary Vine, Sweetheart Vine, or Chain of Hearts — right here in our on-site nursery greenhouse. String of Hearts is one of the most captivating and widely adored trailing houseplants in the world, named for the unmistakable pairs of small, heart-shaped leaves that line its delicate, wire-like stems like living jewelry. Each leaf is distinctly marbled in silver-gray and deep green on the upper surface, with rich purple-pink tones on the underside that catch the light and glow when backlit. The trailing stems of String of Hearts can reach 12 feet or more under ideal indoor conditions — creating spectacular cascading curtains of hearts when allowed to trail freely from a shelf, hanging basket, or paludarium opening. In late summer and fall, tiny tubular flowers in pink to purple appear along the stems. Native to South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Swaziland, String of Hearts is one of the most rewarding trailing plants available — growing vigorously under the right conditions while tolerating the kind of occasional neglect that defeats fussier houseplants. Available in 2″ pot (SKU 6147-1, $8.99) or 3″ pot (SKU 6147-2, $10.99).

Key Features of String of Hearts for Sale

  • Heart-shaped leaves marbled in silver-gray and deep green — an unmistakably beautiful leaf pattern on delicate wire-like trailing stems
  • Rich purple-pink undersides that glow when backlit — adds a second visual dimension depending on viewing angle
  • Trailing stems up to 12 feet long — one of the most spectacular trailing plants when allowed to develop fully
  • Tiny tubular pink-purple flowers in late summer and fall
  • Small bead-like tubers form along the vine — the characteristic that gives it its “Rosary Vine” name
  • Drought-tolerant — stores water in its semi-succulent leaves; survives occasional missed waterings
  • Ideal for paludariums, terrariums, hanging baskets, and high shelves where trailing vines can develop freely
  • Easy to propagate — stem cuttings, tuber propagation, and water rooting all work reliably

Growing String of Hearts — Care at a Glance

Light

String of Hearts thrives in bright indirect light — a few feet back from a south or west-facing window is ideal. It can tolerate some direct morning sun which intensifies leaf coloration, but prolonged direct afternoon sun scorches the delicate leaves. Avoid low-light conditions — insufficient light causes pale, widely-spaced leaves with faded silver marbling and leggy, unattractive growth.

Watering — Soak and Dry Method

String of Hearts stores water in its semi-succulent leaves and should be watered using the soak-and-dry method — water thoroughly until water drains from the pot, then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. Never let the plant sit in standing water and never water on a fixed schedule regardless of soil moisture. Reduce watering significantly in winter when growth slows.

Soil and Pot

Plant in well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix with added perlite for additional drainage. Always use a pot with drainage holes — String of Hearts is highly susceptible to root rot in waterlogged conditions. The plant prefers to be slightly root-bound — do not over-pot.

Humidity and Paludarium Use

String of Hearts tolerates average household humidity well and does not require high humidity like tropical plants. However, it does beautifully in paludariums and open terrariums positioned above the waterline where it can trail downward from the opening — the humid environment near the water surface suits it well as long as the roots are not kept wet.

Temperature

Maintain temperatures above 60°F (15°C). String of Hearts does not tolerate frost and should be kept away from cold drafts and air conditioning vents.

Propagation

Propagate easily by three methods: stem cuttings placed in well-draining soil or water; pressing tubers (the bead-like nodes on the vine) into moist soil while still attached to the parent stem; or harvesting and sowing seeds. Stem cuttings and tuber propagation are the most reliable methods.
