Description
Cryptocoryne Parva for Sale — The Smallest Crypt and One of the Most Refined Foreground Plants in the Hobby
If you’ve been searching for Cryptocoryne Parva for sale, Quinn’s Fins grows Cryptocoryne parva — commonly known as Tiny Crypt or Dwarf Water Trumpet — right here in our on-site nursery greenhouse. Cryptocoryne parva holds a unique and beloved position in the planted aquarium hobby: it is the smallest species in the entire Cryptocoryne genus, and one of the most quietly elegant foreground plants available. Its narrow, lanceolate bright green leaves grow in tight, tidy rosettes that reach just 1 to 4 inches tall — creating a natural, grassy foreground texture that reads as refined and carefully considered in any aquascape. Unlike most Cryptocoryne species whose leaf form changes dramatically between emersed and submerged conditions, C. parva looks essentially the same in both environments — a predictable, stable aesthetic that experienced aquascapers specifically value. Cryptocoryne Parva for sale at Quinn’s Fins is available in two formats — bare root (SKU 720-1, $4.99) and in a 2″ pot (SKU 720-2, $6.99) — both nursery-grown and ready to plant.
Why Cryptocoryne Parva for Sale Is Worth the Wait
Cryptocoryne parva is not a plant for impatient aquarists. It is, however, a plant for aquarists who want a foreground that looks finished, natural, and professionally planted — and who are willing to invest the time to get there.
- The smallest Cryptocoryne species — stays just 1–4″ tall in submerged conditions; a true foreground-scale crypt
- Narrow grass-like bright green leaves in tight rosettes — clean, refined micro-grass aesthetic that suits any aquascape style
- Leaf form stays consistent across conditions — no dramatic shape or color changes between emersed and submerged growth
- Spreads via runners into a lush foreground carpet over time — patient planting becomes a polished lawn
- Suitable for nano tanks and large displays alike — compact size works in any footprint
- Heavy root feeder — develops a deep anchored root system that makes it very stable once established
- Safe for all fish, shrimp, and invertebrates — dense low carpet provides natural cover at substrate level
- Very low maintenance once established — slow growth means almost no trimming required
Growing Cryptocoryne Parva — Care at a Glance
Patience Is the Primary Requirement
Cryptocoryne parva is the slowest-growing crypt in the hobby — and managing that expectation honestly is the most important thing we can tell you before you plant it. Without CO2 supplementation, reaching a full carpet can take 6–12 months. With CO2 and high-quality substrate, this timeline can be reduced to 5–6 months. This is not a plant that delivers instant gratification — it is a plant that delivers a genuinely beautiful result to aquarists who give it time and stable conditions.
Light — More Than Most Crypts
Cryptocoryne parva requires moderate to high lighting — significantly more light than most other Cryptocoryne species. Its small stature puts it further from the light source than taller plants, and it is easily overshadowed by neighboring plants. Keep it in an open, unshaded area of the foreground away from taller plants that might block light reaching its leaves. In lower light, growth slows to near standstill. Adequate lighting is the single most important factor for reliable parva growth.
Plant Once — Do Not Move
Like all Cryptocoryne species, C. parva dislikes being moved or disturbed once established. Choose your planting location carefully before introduction and commit — moving established plants resets the root system, causes stress, and may trigger crypt melt. Separate individual plants into small plugs and plant them 1–2 inches apart in the foreground, with roots buried and crown just at the substrate surface.
Crypt Melt
Crypt melt — sudden leaf drop on introduction to a new aquarium — is possible with C. parva, as with all Cryptocoryne species. If leaves drop after planting, do not remove the plant. Healthy roots remain active below the substrate and new leaves will emerge within 3–5 weeks as the plant adjusts. Avoid drastic parameter changes during the acclimation period. Stable conditions and patience produce the best outcomes.
Substrate
Cryptocoryne parva is a heavy root feeder — nutrient-rich aquarium soil produces the strongest growth and most reliable carpet development. In inert gravel or sand, root tabs placed beneath the planting area are essential. Iron and potassium levels are particularly important — deficiencies appear as yellowing, chlorosis, and holes in leaves. Plant with crown just at or slightly above the substrate surface.
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 68–82°F (20–28°C)
- pH: 5.5–7.5
- Hardness: Soft to hard — highly adaptable
- Flow: Gentle circulation at the substrate level helps prevent green spot algae on slow-growing leaves
CO2 & Fertilization
CO2 injection is not required but has a more significant impact on C. parva than almost any other crypt — reducing carpet development time from 12 months to as few as 5 months in optimal setups. If you want a carpet within a reasonable timeframe, CO2 injection combined with high-quality substrate and moderate to high light is the most effective combination. Root tabs are the most impactful fertilization method. Liquid fertilizer with iron and potassium supports leaf health.
Aquascape Design Use
Cryptocoryne parva works beautifully along the front edge of a rock line, around the base of driftwood, and as a natural transition between hardscape and open substrate. It pairs exceptionally well with darker hardscape — blackwood, stump wood, and dark rock — where its bright green grassy texture creates maximum visual contrast. Plant in groups of 5–10 individual crowns spaced 1–2 inches apart for the most natural-looking results. Two Ways to Buy Cryptocoryne Parva for Sale at Quinn’s Fins
Cryptocoryne Parva for sale at Quinn’s Fins is available in two formats:
- Bare Root (SKU 720-1) — $4.99: Healthy rooted plants shipped without substrate. Separate into individual crowns, trim any damaged roots, rinse thoroughly, and plant directly into aquarium substrate with roots buried and crown at the surface.
- 2″ Pot (SKU 720-2) — $6.99: Nursery-grown in a 2″ pot with established root structure. Remove the plant and all growing media — including rockwool or cotton — before planting. Never place pot or growing media directly in the aquarium. Rinse thoroughly after removal and separate into individual crowns for planting.
